Christian Lessons From the Automobile:

Christian Lessons From the Automobile:

1.      Steer Straight

a.       When driving, it is important not to swerve.

                                                                i.      Ex. from when I was 16 years old.

b.      The way to heaven is straight and narrow.

                                                                i.      Matthew 7:13 "Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.

1.      Satan lures us to get off of the straight and narrow.

c.       The world does not steer straight. Reasons why:

                                                                i.      People love the world. 1 John 2:15: Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

ii.      To many are conformed to the world. Romans 12:2: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

d.      We are not to swerve:

                                                                i.      Joshua 1:7 Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

2.      Keep the battery up

a.       Car battery must be continually charged.

                                                                i.      Alternator

b.      Our batteries must be continually charged.

                                                                i.      We do this by attending Church, studying the word, attending Bible study, fellowshipping with other Christians.

                                                              ii.      Isaiah 40:31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

3.      Make sure to have plenty of fuel.

a.       The most beautiful car in the world won’t run without fuel.

b.      We must have spiritual strength to do great things.

c.       Samson: Drew strength from his hair. Delilah betrayed Samson, and had a man cut his hair. Samson’s strength was gone.

                                                                i.      Judges 16:20 -21 - And she said, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And he awoke from his sleep and said, "I will go out as at other times and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him. 21. And the Philistines seized him and gouged out his eyes and brought him down to Gaza and bound him with bronze shackles. And he ground at the mill in the prison.

ii.      Samson shows us the results of running low on fuel.

d.      Our fuel is Christ”

                                                                i.      Philippians 14:13 - I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

4.      Don’t blow your own horn.

a.       A horn can be useful – animal in the road, but is there anything worse than someone blowing their horn when it’s obvious no one can go anywhere.

b.      Matthew 6: - Giving, v. 1., praying, v. 5, fasting, v. 16.

5.      Obey the laws

a.      Romans 13:1 - Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

b.      God’s laws are for our good!

6.      Check the brakes.

a.      A car without brakes are very dangerous.

b.      Brakes in our lives are self-control.

                                                                i.      Felix needed self-control.

1.       Acts 24:25 And as he reasoned about righteousness and self-control and the coming judgment, Felix was alarmed and said, "Go away for the present. When I get an opportunity I will summon you.”

2.      The Bible never says that Felix found a convenient time.

3.      Felix knew what was being offered, but he wasn’t willing to put the brakes on the ungodly things in his life.

7.      Study the Map

a.      You’ve got to know where your going.

b.      Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man,
but its end is the way to death.

c.       Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

d.      God’s Word is our roadmap.
