The Christian and prayer

The Christian and prayer

Text: Colossians 4:2

Intro: The Christian enjoys something that the non-Christian does not, and that would be prayer. Unfortunately there are many mis-conceptions about prayer. Often times those of us who are the children of God do not pray as often, or with the right heart that we should. So it is our desire tonight to study with you for a few moments tonight the subject of the Christian and prayer. You will notice that I said the Christian and prayer. Not the world and prayer. Not the sinner and prayer. But the Christian and prayer. As the bible would teach us in several passages one must be willing to do Gods will before God can hear their prayers. John 9:31, Psalm 66:18, Proverbs 28:9. These verses will illustrate that no one can pray for salvation. Only through Gods plan can salvation be obtained.

1. The Christians prayers are to be made in faith. Hebrews 11:6

  • a. People doubt his mercy. Micah 7:19
  • b. Because of that think that he has changed toward them. Hebrews 6:18, 13:8.
  • c. God is faithful. 1st John 1:9.

2. The Christian can place his faith in the wonderful promises of God concerning prayer.

  • a. That He hears us. Matt. 7:7 - 11, 6:8.
  • b. When we fall we have an advocate. 1st John 2:1 - 2.
  • c. For heartaches.1st Peter 5:7, Psalm 56:8.

3. The Christians prayers need not be a rehearsed set of words.

  • a. Matt. 6:5 - 8
  • b. To be done in private as well as public.Matt. 6:6
  • c. From the heart. Book of Psalms.

Con. Why would anyone pass the privilege of speaking to the Father? What a blessing the Christian has. Are you one who has this blessing?
