Any amount that you give will be of tremendous assistance with the work. Over there every dollar goes a long way and helps to accomplish a great deal of good. We have been blessed with the help of many churches and brethren. A great deal more is needed. Here is a list of areas where there is a constant and continuous need. BIBLES. There is always a need for Bibles! An effort is made to provide each convert with a Bible in their own language. Reliable translations are purchased at a subsidized price. In addition we receive a 10% discount. Currently, a complete Bible with a plastic cover is about $2.15 depending on the exchange rate to the Indian Rupee. In addition shipping must be paid to the villages. BICYCLES. Many preachers walk to their appointments, or try for a bus if one is available. A bicycle for them is like a car for us. The bicycle enables them to reach more villages and more people. $50.00 will provide a basically equipped cycle. They can add more accessories if they choose. LANTERNS. Where there is no electricity, or a power cut, a lantern provides light for gospel meetings, worship, and baptisms. The new propane gas lanterns are about $40.00. COMMUNION TRAYS. Only trays for the fruit of the vine are needed. A metal tray that will hold 35 plastic cups will run from $15.00 up depending upon the style and if there is a cover. Hundreds of churches request trays. They wash and reuse the cups. Churches in America could wash their used cups and mail them to India. BENEVOLENCE. The majority of the people in India live under grinding poverty. We receive many requests for operations, medical bills, medicine, house fires (which are extremely common due to thatched roofs), sewing machines which they use to support themselves, and many other things. PRINTING. There is a great need for tracts, correspondence courses, songbooks, study books in different languages. Like printing everywhere, the larger the quantity printed, the cheaper each item is. The last printing of song books cost 17 cents each. Many tracts can be printed for $500.00 to $1,000.00. PREACHER TRAINING SCHOOLS. In addition to the area preacher schools conducted in the villages, there are four branches of the South India Bible College that have classes on a regular basis. Attendance in these classes has to be limited because of a lack of funds. There is a special need for $300.00 a month for the Bible Colleges at Bangalore, Ketti, Chennai, and Kurnool. |
