Semper Fidelis

Semper Fidelis

Semper Fidelis distinguishes the Marine Corps bond from any other. It goes beyond teamwork—it is a brotherhood that can always be counted on. Latin for "always faithful," Semper Fidelis became the Marine Corps motto in 1883. It guides Marines to remain faithful to the mission at hand, to each other, to the Corps and to country, no matter what. Becoming a Marine is a transformation that cannot be undone, and Semper Fidelis is a permanent reminder of that. Once made, a Marine will forever live by the ethics and values of the Corps. www.marines.com

"Always Faithful", now that is a motto the redeemed need to embrace. The Hebrews writer tells us that it is impossible to please God without faith-Hebrews 11:6. John let us know that Christians are to remain faithful unto death-Revelation 2:10. Paul added,"For we walk by faith and not by sight"-2 Corinthians 5:7. When you add it all together, we are to be a people of faith that are guided by that faith and that we are to hold fast to that faith even if it costs us our lives.

Like marines, Christians have got to remain faithful to the mission at hand. Jesus said,"For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which is lost"-Luke19:10. Jesus remained faithful to His mission and as soldiers in His army, he expects us to do the same. Consider His words,"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world"-Matthew 28:19-20. In giving the "Great Commission", Jesus gave us our "Mission" to take the good news to a lost and dying world.

We also need to remain faithful to each other. Jesus said,"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another"-John 13:35. As a follower of Christ, it is my duty to love my brethren. They are my comrades, they are my friends, they are my family. Loving my brethren is not just a duty, it is an honor and a privilege.

Marines also remain faithful to Corps and country. As Christians we are to remain faithful to the church that Jesus shed his blood to purchase-Acts 20:28. The church is under attack from every side. It is our duty to defend her to our last breath. It is high time that we let the world know that we stand with Jesus and that we will stay true to Him and His church, no matter what!

Becoming a Christians is a transformation that cannot be undone by anything in this old world. Remember Jesus' words,"I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world"! He has promised to stay faithful to us. Will we remain faithful to Him? We will if we strive every day to make our bond of faith stronger than the day before. The cool thing is that our Lord gives us exactly what we need to make that bond of faith stronger. Faith comes from hearing the word of God-Romans 10:17. Brethren, read the word and watch your faith soar!
