Did You Say The Rapture?
Did You Say The Rapture?
One hears a lot these days about "the rapture". Many churches pass out literature telling all about it. Sermons are preached about the "the rapture" on the radio and TV. You would think the Bible is full of verses about it.
In fact, the word "rapture" is not in the Bible! Look from Genesis to Revelation and you'll not find it. Jesus never mentioned it, nor did Peter and Paul.
All the talk about "the rapture" comes from a system of religious teachings known as "Premillennialism" (another word you'll not find in your Bible). This man made doctrine includes the notion of a future "battle of Armageddon" and a "thousand year reign" of Christ on earth at which time he will establish his kingdom. For one thing, Christ established his kingdom long ago. His first sermon was, "Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matthew 4:17). According to the apostle Paul, people have been members of the kingdom of Christ for 2000 years (Colossians 1:12-14). Jesus is coming again alright, but not to set up his kingdom on earth.
Jesus warned about "teaching for doctrine the commandments of men" (Matthew 15:9.). Confusion and division always results.
