The miracle to produce belief in God is the creation. Francis Bacon wrote, "God never wrought miracles to convince atheism, because His ordinary works convince it." There are two mutually exclusive beliefs concerning the origin of the universe. One is that it has always existed in some form or another. The other is that God brought it into existence out of nothing by divine command (Gen. 1:1). If one accepts the first, the concept of God as creator is ruled out, resulting in unbelief. Holding to the second rules out naturalistic or evolutionary explanations. Thus one's belief in God or lack of it stands on his acceptance or rejection of the evidence provided by the existence of the universe. God considers this evidence to be conclusive. Paul wrote, "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse" (Rom. 1:20).

The purpose of miracles was to produce faith that the words of an inspired speaker were true. The inspired words and the miracles that confirmed them are now recorded in the Bible. But why should one believe the Bible? The Bible contains evidence of divine origin. No other writing can match it in prophecies and fulfillment. It has been providentially preserved down to the present in spite of wide-spread, furious, and frequent attempts to destroy it. It speaks to man's true nature and is in perfect harmony with true science and history. It contains no contradictions though penned by approximately 40 writers over 1,600 years. The antiquity and number of its manuscripts prove that it has not been changed. The veracity of its writers is unchallengeable. There is no excuse for not believing the Bible.
