Sharks Aren’t That Bad... Are They?

In recent years there have been numerous reports of shark attacks on the coasts of the U.S. One man told of his personal experience of being knocked off his surfboard and attacked by a shark. He actually got an “inside” look of the shark’s mouth when the shark tried to bite his head off! He miraculously escaped with a few cuts to his neck and face. What “killed” me about the report was that some ‘shark supporter’ defended the shark by saying, “Sharks get a bad rap — they really don’t hate humans — they’re just looking for something to eat.” Wow! I’ll bet the guy who nearly had his head bitten off was glad to know it wasn’t anything personal when the shark tried to have him “in for dinner.” Who cares why sharks kill people? The fact is they do, and people must stay away — or face the consequences.

The devil may be compared to the shark. The Bible describes him as a lion. Peter writes in
(1 Peter 5:8).”Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”(KJV).   Peter goes on to warn and exhort these suffering Christians to resist the devil during their trials, and they will receive the reward of heaven.

Personally, I don’t care what motivates the devil to attack our salvation. What concerns me is that he can, and he will, if we don’t exercise Christian wisdom regarding every area of life -where we go; what we watch and hear on TV; movies; radio; our dress (modesty); our speech; whom we spend time with; how we value our job and possessions, etc. We are as vulnerable as a man on a surfboard along the beaches if we’re not careful of the sharks!
