Spiritual Check-up 3

Program: Your Spiritual Check-up 03

"Hello, I’m Dr. Mark Landis and it’s time for your check up.......your spiritual check-up!"

How strong are you?  I’m not asking about the strength in your arms, but about the strength of your faith.  Is your faith in God and Christ as strong as you would like it to be?  Do you put your trust fully in Christ?  Are you doing all He wants you to do, or is your faith weaker than you would like?

We have to have faith if we are going to please God. Heb 11:6 (NKJV) says:

6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

If you don’t have faith, pleasing God is impossible.  That makes our faith very important.   According to Jesus, faith is an important work that we do for God.

29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent." John 6:29 (NKJV)

Did you realize that Jesus called faith a work?  We must live our lives by faith to be pleasing to God.  We have to put faith in God before all that we do.  Our faith should guide everything in our lives.   Is your faith that strong?  Can you say what Paul said in Gal 2:20 (NKJV) when he said:

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Are you really living you life by faith in the son of God?  Does your faith influence everything that you do?  Can you say that it is no longer you who live, but that rather it is Christ living in you?  When people look at you, do they see Jesus Christ working in your life?

Perhaps you are thinking the same thing that the father of the demon possessed boy said to Jesus in Mark 9:24 when he said, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!"   The question then becomes how can I get more faith?  Once again we find the answer to that question in the word of God.  In Romans 10:17 (NKJV) we are told:

17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

If you want more faith, the way to get it is simple.  It isn’t hard, but it does take work.  That’s not surprising.  Most things worth having in life do not come without effort.  If you want more faith you need to study the word of God more.  Since faith comes from hearing the word of God, it only makes sense that if you want more faith, you should listen to the word of God more.  That is not the same as listening to the words of men.

My advice to you is the same that Paul gave Timothy in 1 Tim 6:12 (NKJV), which is:

12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

We can all use stronger faith.  Let’s take the faith we have and put it into practice by fighting the good fight of faith.  You can get more faith by careful study of the word of God.  Lay hold on eternal life.  There is no greater possession you can gain.  Why don’t you use faith to draw closer to God as it says in Heb 10:22 (NKJV) 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith”

Faith can make our lives better.  It can ease our minds and keep us from worry.  It makes us more pleasing to God.  Let’s work on building stronger spiritual muscles by exercising our faith.  Let’s build it up with the strength that only comes from the word of God.
