Which Man? Tell Me!

Which Man?  Tell Me.

It is absolutely certain that the New Testament preachers proclaimed primarily Jesus Christ in their preaching. He alone is to receive the praise and accolades of men. He alone deserves our adoration and worship. No man, no matter his power, no matter his declarations, no matter how many millions revere him, deserves the attention that is to be given to Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is the head of the church. How dare some man declare himself to be such? Which men who declare themselves to be head of the church have died for the sins of the world, been buried, and resurrected to life again? Tell me. Which one?

Read Colossians 1:16-18. “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: and he is before all things and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the first born from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.”

About which man can it be said  “by him were all things created.” Who?

About which man can it be said that by him all principalities and powers exist? Who?

About which man can it be said that he is “before all things, and by Him all things consist.” Who?

About which man can it be said that he is the “head of the body the church”? Who?

About which man can it be said that he is the “firstborn from the dead.” Who?

About which man can it be said that he is to be given preeminence in all things.” Who?

And tell me something. How many heads can one body have?

Read Philippians 2:5-11. “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient to death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God, the Father.”

About which man can it be said that he was originally “in the form of God”? Who?

About which man can it be said that He was God and came and became a man? Who?

About which man can it be said that He was raised from the dead? Who?

About which man can it be said that He has the name above all others? Who?

About which man can it be said that God decreed that every knee should bow to Him? Who?

Read Galatians 1:6-9. “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him who called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another, but there be some that trouble you and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you that that ye have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade me, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.”

Which man has the right to add some new doctrine (transubstantiation, deification of Mary, mediator ship of priests, purgatory, the infallibility of the Pope, etc., etc.) to the pure doctrine of the gospel? Who?

Which man has the right to speak on behalf of God, even in the ex cathedra mode? Who?

Which man has the right to change the organization of the church from locally autonomous congregations to all churches under one man? Who?

Which man has the right to seek to please men in preference to God? Who?

Which man has the right to take away the curse placed on those who would change or alter the gospel in any way? Who?

I would have you read one more passage of scripture: Matthew 7:21-23. “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

We best make sure that what we are doing—no matter how good it might appear to be—has the approval of God Almighty. Let’s look at one final passage, II John 9“Whosoever goeth onward and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine hath both the Father and the Son.”   Only in Christ Jesus is there salvation. Acts 4:12 says, Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
