Taking Christianity Seriously

Taking Christianity Seriously

Have you ever noticed how some people just don't take important things in life seriously? To these types of people, life is one big game. The only thing that matters to these folks is how much fun they can have. While we are not opposed to wholesome fun, we must also realize that there is more to life than just having a good time.

There can be no more serious consideration in life than whether or not one is right with the Lord God. God waited until the "right time" (Galatians 4:4), “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law”, to send His Son so that man might have life "abundantly" (John 10:10),” The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”  Think about all God has invested in man. He gave him a soul; no other created thing has this (Genesis 2:7), “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”  This soul will eventually go back to God and we will have to give an account of such a stewardship (Ecclesiastes 12:7; “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” 2 Corinthians 5:10),” For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” Between birth and death, we all need to seriously consider whether we're pleasing God or "playing church."

Many are what they are religiously only because of what their parents are. This even applies to members of the Lord's church - the "2nd, 3rd, etc. generation Christians." While it is expected that parents who are Christians lead their children to Christ, each "generation" must have their own relationship with the Lord apart from what Mom & Dad think. Your mother and father could be wrong; are you serious enough about Jesus Christ to risk going against them (Matthew 10:36-37),” And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.”

Ultimately, New Testament Christianity needs to be taken seriously because heaven and hell are hanging in the balance. Jesus emphasized just how serious New Testament Christianity is. You judge for yourself:

·      Failing to believe in Him brings eternal death (John. 8:24).

Life does have its serious moments. Death awaits us all (Hebrews 9:27), and the prudent thing to do is consider that appointment we will not be able to escape (Ecclesiastes 12:7; 12:13-14), “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”  Are you serious about it or not?
