I.
Introduction
A.
Heb 5:12-6:2
Heb. 5.12 For when for the
time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be
the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of
milk, and not of strong meat.
Heb. 5.13 For every one
that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
Heb. 5.14 But strong meat
belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have
their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Heb. 6.1 Therefore leaving
the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not
laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward
God,
Heb. 6.2 Of the doctrine
of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of
eternal judgment.
B.
Eph 4:11-16
Eph. 4.11 And he gave
some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors
and teachers;
Eph. 4.12 For the
perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the
body of Christ:
Eph. 4.13 Till we all come
in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a
perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
Eph. 4.14 That we
henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every
wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they
lie in wait to deceive;
Eph. 4.15 But speaking the
truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even
Christ:
Eph. 4.16 From whom the
whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint
supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part,
maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

II
Peter 1:1-7
1 Simon Peter, a servant
and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith
with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2 Grace and peace be
multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine
power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness,
through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto
us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers
of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world
through lust.
5 And beside this, giving
all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6 And to knowledge
temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7 And to godliness
brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
.
Virtue: moral excellence; integrity of character; purity of
soul; performance of duty; conforming to a standard of right; Goodness
1.
Phi 4:8-9
8 Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,whatsoever things are
just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever
things are of good report; if there beany virtue, and if there be any praise,
think on these things.
9 Those things, which ye
have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of
peace shall be with you.
2.
Rom 12:1-2
1 I beseech you therefore,
brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living
sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to
this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may
prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
A.
Knowledge: the fact or condition of understanding; Awareness;
familiarity which is gained by actual experience; practical skill;
1.
Phi 1:9-11
9 And this I pray, that
your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment
10 That ye may approve
things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the
day of Christ
11 Being filled with the
fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise
of God.
2.
Col 1:9-11
9 For this cause we also,
since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye
might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual
understanding
10 That ye might walk
worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and
increasing in the knowledge of God
11 Strengthened with all
might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering
with joyfulness;
B.
Temperance: moderation in action; thought or feeling; Restraint;
Moderation of passion; patience; calmness; sedateness; Habitual moderation in
regard to the indulgence of the natural appetites and passions; restrained or
moderate indulgence; moderation; as, temperance in eating and drinking;
temperance in the indulgence of joy or mirth; specifically, moderation, and
sometimes abstinence, in respect to using intoxicating liquors.
1.
Gal 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the
Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance:
against such there is no law.
2.
Phi 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men.
C.
Patience: bearing trials calmly; The act or power of calmly or
contentedly waiting for something due or hoped for; Forbearance; the power of
suffering with fortitude; uncomplaining endurance of evils or wrongs, as toil,
pain, poverty, insult, oppression, calamity, etc.
1.
Rom 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek
for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life:
2.
Rom 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing
instant in prayer;
3.
Jas 5:7-8
7 Be patient therefore,
brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the
precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive
the early and latter rain.
8 Be ye also patient;
stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
4.
Luk 21:19 In your patience possess ye your souls.
D.
Godliness: Pious; Holy; Careful observance of, or conformity
to, the laws of God; the state or quality of being godly;
1.
I Tim 4:7-8
7 But refuse profane and
old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
8 For bodily exercise
profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise
of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
2.
I Tim 6:3-12
3 If any man teach
otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus
Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
4 He is proud, knowing
nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy,
strife, railings, evil surmisings,
5 Perverse disputings of
men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is
godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
6 But godliness with
contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing
into this world, and itis certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and
raiment let us be therewith content.
9 But they that will be
rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts,
which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money
is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from
the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
11 But thou, O man of God,
flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love,
patience, meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of
faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast
professed a good profession before many witnesses.
E.
Brotherly kindness: love of fellow man; Charity; Compassion
1.
Heb 13:1-7
1 Let brotherly love
continue.
2 Be not forgetful to
entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
3 Remember them that are
in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being
yourselves also in the body.
4 Marriage is honourable
in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
5 Let your conversation be
without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath
said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
6 So that we may boldly
say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
7 Remember them which have
the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith
follow, considering the end of their conversation.
2.
Rom 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly
love; in honor preferring one another;
3.
I Thes 4:9-12
9 But as touching
brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught
of God to love one another.
10 And indeed ye do it
toward all the brethren which arein all Macedonia: but we beseech you,
brethren, that ye increase more and more;
11 And that ye study to be
quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we
commanded you;
12 That ye may walk
honestly toward them that are without,
and that ye may have lack of nothing.
F.
Charity: Christian love; Love; universal benevolence; good
will; generosity;
2.
I Cor 16:14 Let all your things be done with charity.
3.
4.
I Pet 4:8 And above all things have fervent charity among
yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
