FORWARD - ARE WE A CHRISTIAN NATION?

To most American we are indeed a Christian nation. The founders of this great nation so understood it, and would not have had it any other way. In the Declaration of Independence passed by congress July 4, 1776, the founders mention Nature’s God and state that "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights . . .” In the closing paragraph of this historical document they appeal to the "Supreme Judge of the World,” and state they have a "firm Reliance on the Protection of divine Providence.” It is an undisputed fact that these signers understood that Providence was the God of the Bible! Period.

Technically speaking, Christian occurs in the New Testament only three times (Acts 11:26; 26:28 and 1 Peter 4:16) and it is used as a noun rather than an adjective. However, most of us have little trouble visualizing a Christian college, a Christian home, or a Christian nation for that matter.  My trusty computer dictionary tells us it relates "to or professing Christianity or it’s teaching.” Surely, as a nation, we advocate the teachings of Christianity as found in the Bible.

The militant Atheists among us are doing everything within their power to destroy anything that hints of Christianity. Their battle cry is "separation of church and state.” They claim the Constitution states it - but neglect to give "chapter and verse,” that we may read it for ourselves. The truth is that their battle cry is not found in the Constitution. The statement in the first amendment ("Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; . . .”), in historical context, it has reference to not having a denomination as a state religion as was the practice in Europe at the time (e.g., the Church of England, the Lutheran Church, etc.). Our forefathers intended freedom of religion to be under the umbrella of Christianity not as currently advocated - from religion.

Our currency states "In God We Trust.” That God is the God of the Bible NOT some heathen deity! In our pledge to our flag, we pledge our allegiance to "one nation under God with liberty and justice for all.” That God is the Creator of the Universe (Genesis 1:1) and the God before whom we shall stand in the final Judgement Day!
