America At The Crossroads

In the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17), God warned Israel against worshiping other gods by stating, "I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments" (verses 5-6).  Today, most Americans have embraced the Gospel of Love and/or the Gospel of Positivism.  We have forgotten that the God of Love (1 John 4:8, 13) is also a God of Wrath (Romans 1:16-18; Revelation 14:10; 16:1).

Today we as a nation stand at the crossroads of history; we are faced with a choice as to which road we shall take.  We can continue on the road our founders mapped out, or turn away and take the road that leads to destruction (Matthew 7:13-14).  Righteousness can and does exalt a nation (Proverbs 14:34).  As with Israel in the Old Testament, God has blessed Americans beyond that which we deserve.  Our standard of living is beyond the imagination of our forefathers.  As the lone superpower of the world, God can continue to bless us OR dump us on the ash heap of history as a lesson to those that forget God (Psalms 9:17; 135:10).

Even those that might reject God's revealed will in the Bible should recognize that natural law found in the Book of Nature proclaims that there is a right and wrong.  When Jehovah warned Israel concerning the abominations of their world, God pointed out that when man defiles the land, Mother Nature becomes so sick of it that, "the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants" (Leviticus 18:25).  Sexual perversions are never normal or natural.  Society's acceptance of same-sex marriage does not change either God's or Nature's laws.  Man cannot make right wrong nor evil good, no matter what we say or do.

Too many Americans today love sin and corruption.  Too many of our leaders, both religious and secular, are without ethics or morals.  Our young people are without guidance from our schools, friends, neighbors, and family.  The Book of Books points out, "a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame" (Proverbs 29:15). An all seeing, all wise government is rapidly replacing the family.  In early America, the family was primarily responsible for the education of the children.  Before WWII, the family was primarily responsible for the welfare of family members.  Neighbors helped neighbors in need.  Today, too many turn to the "great father in Washington."

Tomorrow we shall pay for the decisions we make today.  God will help us if we help ourselves.  The Bible can and will provide guidance in life that we might become truly children of God, that we might worship Him acceptably, live righteously, and spend eternity with Him in Heaven.
