What Does the Bible say about Drugs?

The class of drugs I am addressing are mood altering drugs. Some of these drugs are legal (with and without a prescription) and the remainder are illegal.

It is very simple for Christians to stay away from illegal drugs. We do not partake of them since we are to be subject unto the higher powers (Romans 13:1). The drugs that are legal (with and without a prescription) have to be addressed by Christians with the following considerations:

A). Christians are to have control of their bodies. James 3:2 and 1 Corinthians 6:12 talks about bridling the whole body and not being under the power of any. Christians are to be sober (1 Thessalonians 5:8) which is impossible to be if we are under the influence of mood altering drugs.

B). A Christian's body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "What? know ye not that  your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and  ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." We belong to God.

C). The use of mood altering drugs keeps us Christians from following Paul's direction as we see in 1 Thessalonians 5:6, "Therefore let us not  sleep, as do others; but let us watch and  be sober." Peter instructs us in 1 Peter 5:8, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary  the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"

Having established that our bodies belong to Christ and that we are always to be sober and vigilant, I want to add a final consideration. Paul tells us in Ephesians 5:15-18, "See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,  Redeeming  the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what  the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;" With these considerations, how can one justify a Christian being involved with mood altering drugs?
