God is the author of two great books -- the book of Nature and the Book of Revelation (that is the Bible). The book of Nature is reflected in the world of Science, as man explores the intricacies of God's creation. As the Psalmist expressed it, "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork" (Psalms 19:1). Today, it seems, scientists are divided between those that accept the fact that our universe is a result of "intelligent design" and those that consider our earth the result of a mythical big bang of one sort or another. Again, the Psalmist is to the point, "The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one (Psalms 14:1-3).

 When man rejects God's moral compass, he loses direction and is lost. Instead of right and wrong, or black and white; there are fifty shades of gray. Man's social engineering has ignored God's moral code as revealed in the Gospel (that is the Bible). When there is no fear of God, every man does that which is right in his own eyes. But, how does man know that which is good, and right, and proper? There are some things which are naturally right or wrong in themselves. This is expressed in the concept of "natural law." However, God in His wisdom knew that this was not enough. God, therefore, revealed His will to man who is made in God's image (Genesis 1:27).

 God, being God, could reveal His will to man in any number of ways. He could simply drill a hole in our skulls and pour His will into our heads. However, He chose to direct man by using words. Language gives God the widest range of communication of His will. For example, our commands to our pet dog are simple: "Come," "fetch," "stay," and "bad dog" illustrate the point. The Bible tells us over and over that God "spoke" or "said" various things to various people. Although, as Paul points out, "the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe" (1 Corinthians 1:21). This is why the Bible is often called The "Word of God."

 Speaking of the Word of God, when God decided to reveal His will to mankind through His Son, Jesus, He refers to Him as the Word. Speaking of Christ, John begins his Gospel by speaking of Christ as the Word: "in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1). Jesus said, "I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me" (John 6:38). Jesus also stated, "I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak" (John 12:49). Again, we note the emphasis of God communicating with man by means of words! In this same context (John 12:48) Jesus stressed, "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day."
