God's Judgment upon Sodom and Gomorrah

With the political climate of today, we know that whatever is written here is going to enrage those who are of the "progressive" mindset. However, we have no alternative but to show clearly what the Bible and history teaches about this historical event in the Bible. The Biblical narrative of Sodom and Gomorrah is found in the 18th and 19thchapters of Genesis. Early in the Genesis narrative, we see that man begins to fight against God and any restraint to their desire. "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually" (Genesis 6:5). Things were so bad, that except for Noah's family, He destroyed the people by a great flood. Later, Abraham's nephew, Lot chose to move to a beautiful valley to raise his family and flocks. Later, Abraham entertained the Heavenly host (Genesis 18) and was told that these cities would be destroyed... "Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous" (Genesis 18:20). After the angels entered Sodom, Lot invited them to his house for both fellowship and to protect them. The men of the city surrounded Lot's house and demanded that he send them out so they could "know them" (Genesis 19:5).

In spite of the ruling of our Supreme Court and prevailing lax attitudes today, God and society has nearly always condemned homosexual relationships. This is clearly implied by the statement, "... So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them" (Genesis 1:27; Matthew 19:4; Mark 10:6 emphasis mine, ER). The natural reproduction laws God placed into being, are that it requires a male and female to reproduce themselves. Male and female are distinct types of human beings, different in every cell of their bodies, in spite of the popular trends today to depict them as the same, and to make "gender" completely fluid!

In every period of Bible history, God always condemned homosexual relationships. Sodom and Gomorrah was the beginning of this condemnation. God's condemnation continued after the Law of Moses was instituted, (See Leviticus 19 where many sexual sins are named including homosexuality). Jesus expanded upon marriage in Matthew 19:1-12 when He made it clear that a man and woman joined in marriage became "one flesh" and were to be faithful to each other, "let not man put asunder." This is the "natural" course of things and relationships of the same gender were viewed as "against nature" and contrary to the will of God. It is made clear in the New Testament that those who practice homosexuality, whether male or female, are unacceptable to God and will not enter into His kingdom (Romans 1:25-32; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11).

The facts of the Bible, history, and reason, show that for thousands of years the universal standard of marriage was male and female. This is the common, stable, and foundational base of society. The vast majority of cultures has considered homosexual relations as a perversion, and punished them in various degrees. Even today, all the Islamic factions we are aware of, condemn homosexuals to death, although the various perversions of pedophilia, incest, rape, polygamy, etc. are practiced! God's judgment on Sodom and the other cities of the plain was simply to cleanse and protect those of the day. Those who embrace homosexuality, accept an unhealthy lifestyle that can cut up to twenty years off their life, and open themselves for hurtful and abusive relationships. God loves all mankind (John 3:16), but He also desires their well-being!
