The debate was held at Cedar Crest Church of Christ, Dallas, Texas, July 8-9, 11-12.
The debate is an outgrowth of my participation last August on TV program Herald of Truth. Vernon L. Barr questioned my locating the church on Pentecost. Barr has been debating preachers like W. Curtis Porter, Rue Porter, Guy Woods, John O'Dowd, Wilson Coon, and Logan Buchanan. Barr accused me, "along with all Campbellites" of twisting the scriptures. Barr claims he has defeated every gospel preacher he has debated and they are now afraid to stand up and defend what they believe. "All their preachers except Dr. Evans find excuses to refuse to affirm that all accountable persons not members of the Church of Christ are on the road to eternal damnation." Barr has been preaching 43 years, 23 of them in Dallas and is the author of a number of booklets. I will be the first Black gospel preacher that he has ever met and possibly the last debate on Curse of Canaan.
