November 6, Elder C. B. Massey (Missionary Baptist) began a seven day's debated at Pleasant Shade, Tennessee.

The crowds were large in spite of bad weather. Elder Massey is a smooth-tempered man, but very weak in debate.

On the fifth day, I asked him if he would shake hands with me on a person believing unto righteousness (Romans 10:10) on a person repenting unto life (Acts 11:18), on a person confessing unto salvation (Romans 10:10), on a person being baptized into Christ (Romans 6:3-4; Galatians 3:27) also on a person being baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38) on all of which he gave me a hearty handshake. Elder Massey said that "unto" in each passage means "right at". I then showed his fallacy with telling effect. I asked him if the preposition "FOR" in his proposition (pray for the remission of sins) was not the same as the preposition "FOR" in Acts 2:38. He was pressed on this but never did give his opinion.
