W. T. Boaz vs. H. B. Taylor (Missionary Baptist)

Boaz: An able debate for one of his age. Brave, logical and earnest, he impresses people with his loyalty and love for truth. Taylor: Also an able debater. He makes his points in few words, is very gentlemanly, and pleads for his positions with an earnestness and a path worthy of a better cause.
Boaz: Arranged on a chart the line of prophecy pointing to the coming kingdom and the line of history pointing back to the kingdom that had come. It was shown that the line of prophecy and the line of history met on the day of Pentecost, from which fact Bro. Boaz made an argument that simply amounted to a demonstration that the church was not fully set up till Pentecost.
Taylor: "No difference in missionary and Hardshell Baptists except on the question of mission. Heirs of salvation are personally and unconditionally chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world." Bro. Boaz called for chapter and verse of the Baptist "Confession". Taylor gave Mark 1:5. "Yes," said Boaz, "these were baptized 'confessing their sins,' not that they felt that God, for Christ's sake, had pardoned their sins. Now if there is a Baptist in this house who was baptized confessing his sins, he will please stand." No one stood. We believe a decided victory was gained for the truth. Both speakers were courteous, which made the debate both pleasant and profitable. Boaz and Taylor both have reasons to be proud of the able and scholarly arguments made in defense of their positions. Boaz an able defender of the old Jerusalem gospel.
