R. L. Calley vs D. D. Lewis (Assembly of God)
June 17, 1937
New London Church of Christ

(By D. W. Nichol, Kilgore, Texas)

May 23-26, R. L. Calley, New London, Texas met Mr. D. D. Lewis, Presbyter of Assembly of God Church, in public discussion.

Subjects: The Age of Miracles, and Christ's 1,000 Year Reign. This debate was held on the lawn of  he New London Church of Christ. Large crowds came. A public address system was installed so those unable to get on the lawn could sit in cars. Both men conducted themselves as gentlemen. Much good will follow this debate.

The discussion was an outgrowth of a meeting conducted by Raymond T. Richey of Houston, Texas. Mr. Richey refused to debate Bro. Calley. However, the members of the Assembly of God Church brought such pressure to bear on Lewis, their Pastor, that arrangements were finally consummated.

The work of Mr. Lewis was possibly as good as could have been presented by any of his persuasion. Bro. Calley's arguments that the days of miracles had ceased and that Christ would never reign a literal 1,000 years upon the earth were outstanding. D. W. Nichol moderated for Calley.
