Ward Hogland vs J. W. Kesner (Missionary Baptist)
March 2, 1950
Ft. Smith, Arkansas

(By C. B. Billingsley)

May 9-12

Kesner is know in this section, having preached for the Central Baptist church for 19 years. He has a daily broadcast here, and is heard from coast to coast over a station in Mexico. He is experienced as a debater. This Baptist church was established largely through the efforts of Ben Bogard.

Bro. Highers needs no introduction in this section of the country. Both in his preaching and debating he stands for the truth with power and persuasion. About 4 months ago he met Burt F. Marrs, president of the Church of God (Seventh Day) publishing House at Stanberry, Mo. As a result, the progress of this sect has been greatly curtailed, and a number have been converted.

Geo. B. Curtis said: "J. W. Kesner has edited a number of books, widely known among American Association Baptists. Any weakness attributed to the Baptist cause could not be alleged as a weakness of the man, but of the doctrine.

Bro. Hogland is a young man, 25 years old. This was his 2nd debate. He was master of the situation. That the truth prevailed was attributed by the fact that 8 were baptized as a result of the debate. Six were formerly Baptists. The debate drew large crowds. Some 30-40 Baptist preachers were present. Dr. Byrd, prof. of Greek in the Missionary Baptist Institute of Little Rock, moderated Kesner. I moderate for bro. Hogland.
