Wayne M. Largent vs W. E. Sherrell (Baptist)
March 7, 1928
Benton, Oklahoma

(By Wayne M. Largent)

At Benton, Ark., Feb. 12-16.

Was considered one of cleanest and best they had ever attended. Mr. Sherrell acted like a gentleman. It is a real pleasure to meet such a man. At one session there were 7 denominations represented and all listened. Mr. Sherrell aid he could not tell Baptist from our people.

Mr. Sherrell said: "The Baptist Church is better that heaven, and it is harder to get into the Baptist Church than to go to heaven." He said this in argument on salvation by grace. While on apostasy he said he had "rather be a Miss. Bap. preacher here on earth than to be the 79 angels of heaven." I mention this to show to what lengths a false theory will lead men. I have had several requests to repeat this discussion with Sherrell in El Dorado this summer.

To say the debate has done us good here is expressing it in mild terms. Out attendance last Lord's day, both morning and night, was almost doubled with several expressing themselves as going to obey the gospel soon. E. L. Whiddon, Baptist preacher, became a member of the church of Christ - will preach N. T. gospel. The debate continues to bring good results.
