J. L. Love vs D. L. Watson (Come Outers)
Date Unknown
Andolusia, Alabama

(By Van A. Bradley)

Debated at Andolusia, Ala.

Propositions was on the general church question. Bro. Love opened with strong arguments relative to the church; its origin, doctrine and practice. Love quoted many verses. Mr. Watson did not answer a single argument. He tried to follow but failed.

The last two nights, Mr. Watson admitted the church began on Pentecost and Peter gave the law of pardon, but said that all occurred during the Jewish age. He said that the work of the apostles - all of it - was during the Jewish age; that the law of Moses never really ended until the year 64 a. d. He declared that there had never been a case of water baptism since the days of Cornelius, and no one could show conclusively that he was baptized. He claimed the baptism of Eph. 4:5 is Holy Spirit baptism and that the commission of Jesus to the apostles is a dead commission. Bro. Love met him at every point and did some find preaching in the meantime.

Mt. Watson is by far the weakest man I ever heard in debate. He represents a people in this community known as "come-outers" or "stumbling stones."
