C. R. Nichol vs A. Nunnery (Baptist)
June 10, 1915
Location Unknown

(By O. K. Posey, Jr.)

Debated general church questions. Mr. Nunnery got mad a few times while bro. Nichol was in the affirmative. Bro. Nichol pressed him so hard that Nunnery invariably consumed 28 minutes replying to him and only a 2 minutes to give new material. While Nunnery is an artful dodger, yet, with bro. Nichol behind him, his sophistry vanished like mist before the summer sun, and the truth of God stood out in startling distinction. Bro. Nichol is a mighty defender of "the faith" -- quick, powerful and profound. He treat an opponent so nice, and yet wear his theory to a frazzle.

Mr. Nunnery took this position on the new birth: "My mother is the Holy Spirit." Bro. Nichol read where the Holy Spirit is called "he" or "him." He asked Mr. Nunnery if his mother was a "he" and continued, "The scripture says, the Spirit (mother) fell on them, and sat upon them and they were filled with the Holy Spirit, that is, filled with the mother." Mr. Nunnery dropped the subject.

Brethren, if you need a strong man to defend the Bible against any foe, call C.R. Nichol.
