C. R. Nichol vs D. N. Jackson (Landmark Baptist)
December 5, 1935
Spearsville, Louisiana

(By R. N. Johnson)

At Liberty Baptist Church, near Spearsville. La., Nov. 19-22.

Great crowds, interest and attention Bro. Nichol affirmed general church propositions and possibility of apostasy. I have never heard any man in public discussion that seemed to have his subject better in hand than bro. Nichol. He is prepared and stays prepared.

Mr. Jackson affirmed the direct operation of the H.S. and salvation before baptism. He said things which were unnecessarily irrelevant, and was properly rebuked and all his points answered . Mr. Jackson is a strong debater. It is well enough to let our strong men meet him. The debate should do good, for many heard Baptist doctrine explained and exposed who had not known its import before. May bro. Nichol live many years to represent the truth as he did on this occasion.

Note from bro. Nichol: "Recently it was my pleasure to meet in debate Mr. D.N. Jackson, Baptist. Mr. Jackson 'recommends himself highly' in debate. I trust many opportunities may come for me to expose the false doctrine Baptists hold, with Mr. Jackson as my opponent -- if he continues to teach that doctrine."
