W. H. Owen vs W. A. Gaugh (Missionary Baptist)
February 5, 1914
Ro-Ellen, Tennessee

(By W. Halliday Trice)

This debate was held at Ro-Ellen, near Dyersburg, Tenn. The attendance was fair, but the weather bad and roads in poor shape.

In discussing the estab. of the church Mr. Gaugh took the position that the "personal ministry of Jesus" extended beyond his death to his ascension. This was a bit unusual. Mr. Gaugh has some ability, but not a strong debater. His strength is in his ability to misstate his opponent's contention and in knowing when to let severely alone - the arguments of the opposition.

Bro. Owen is capable, resourceful, strong in discussion, and the brethren highly pleased. The good people of Ro- Ellen are very kind to visitors. The debaters agreed to return in the Spring and discuss apostasy.
