W. Curtis Porter vs Ralph Staten (Freewill Baptist)
June 29, 1950
Newport, Arkansas

(By Paul C. Keller)

Debated at Airport Auditorium, Newport Ark. May 30 - June 2. Each man discussed the establishment of the church and baptism.

Bro. Porter was master of the situation throughout the debate. Although Mr. Staten is an experienced debater and is regarded as a leading exponent of the Freewill cause, his work in this debate was like an amateur. I have seldom seen a man more confused and rattled than he was at times during the debate. The first night he chose to answer from his seat while Porter was speaking. This got him into difficulties and he stopped it for the rest of the debate.

Bro. Porter is one of the most able men to be found to defend the truth in public discussion. He is thorough in presenting the truth and exposing error. His conduct is debate is the very best.
