A. H. Smith vs Mr. Verell (Primitive Baptist)
September 1, 1904
Cumberland, Mississippi

(By H. L. Taylor)

Aug. 1-4 at Cumberland, Miss. They debated general church propositions.

The debate was well attended, peace and harmony prevailed. Mr. Verell made a good fight for the Primitive Baptists, but bro, Smith's arguments were based on the truth and so linked that they could not be overturned. This was bro. Smith's first debate. He is familiar with God's word and knows how to rightly apply it. He is also a good reasoner and makes everything so plain that all can understand. The cause is safe in his hands. I think much good will come out of this debate. Several Primitive Baptist preachers were in attendance.
