Welcome to the
Morton Street Church of Christ
Purpose

Purpose

By Travis Bookout

The purpose of the Morton Street church of Christ is simply to serve the Lord the best that we can (Matthew 7:21).  This includes searching to find the will of God, and striving to apply it correctly to our lives (Luke 6:46).  We desire for everything that we do to have a God-given Biblical reason (Colossians 3:17).  This is why Bible study is stressed in both public and private settings (Acts 20:20).  We need to be people of the book, so that we can know how to be people of God (1 Timothy 2:4).  This is why Bible centered preaching is of such importance (2 Timothy 4:2).  We love Christ, and the Bible is a gift from God that helps us come to know Him (2 Timothy 3:15-17).  This is why unity among believers is such a high goal (1 Corinthians 1:10).  Jesus wanted His believers to be unified with one another (John 17:20-23), and this only happens when we believe and practice the teachings that come from Him (1 Corinthians 4:17).  We want to bring the lost into a saving relationship with Jesus (Galatians 3:26-28).  We want our worship to be pleasing to God, while at the same time encouraging and educational to everybody present (John 4:24; Colossians 3:16).  We want to encourage Christians to be faithful when obstacles come their way (Hebrews 10:35, 36).  We want to enjoy fellowship with all of God’s children (1 John 1:3, 7).  We want to defeat sin in our lives, by allowing Christ to reign supreme (Colossians 1:13-18).  All of these goals can be reached through searching to find the will of God, and striving to apply it correctly to our lives.  So please help join in our effort to serve the Lord as best we can.
