What IS Wisdom?

wisdom (Heb. chokmah) = skill, wit / insight into the proper mode of behavior

Example: Ex28.1-3 endowed with spirit of wisdom = skilled in art of doing a thing right.

Purpose of the writing: 1.2-6 "to understand..."

Manner: stated clearly, succinctly, w/o equivocation

Style: Poetic -- in a Hebrew Way: parallelism

  1. repetitious      / synonymous (1.2) restatement in other words
  2. contrastive      / antithetic (1.7) principle in opposite terms
  3. completive      / synthetic (16.4) expanding into an example

Author: Solomon - specially gifted by God (1Kgs3.9-12). His gift was insight.

Wisdom is Teachable

IF we value it more than silver and gold (2.1-11)

IF we respect these divine rules for living (8.22-31)
