Pass It On!

Pass it On!

Our need to pass on God's Way of Life (& not try to 'take it with us').

The Native American   Way of Life

  • Endangered from Without by      Aggression and Resettlement
  • Weakened from Within by      Substance Abuse and Neglect of Family
  • Culture Preserved in Ceremony      and Craft (pottery, weaving, jewelry)

"Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?" (Luke 18:8)

 The Lost Generation

  • There arose a generation... who      did not know Yahweh  ~Judges 2:6-10~
  • W/O guiding principles and      values, we are lost in a strange land.
  • Do not hide them, but tell the      works of God to our children  ~Psalms 78:1-8~

 The Disciple Cycle

  • What else can we be, when      Jesus has All Authority?! (Mt28:19).
  • 1st by      Introduction, then by Indoctrination (Ax2:42 / 2Tim3:14).
  • Teaching -- Observe all things      commanded -- 'til the end  ~Matt 28:20~

 The Need for Teachers

  • Role of Imparting the Word Entrusted      by Christ (Eph4:11).
  • Elders feed the flock, labor      in teaching, & rebuke error (Ax20:28 / 1Tim5:17)  ~Titus 1:5,9~
  • Truth once establish, not to      be changed, but passed on (Gal1:6-9)  ~2 Timothy 2:2~

 Tell the Children

  • Yahweh's Plan for Preserving      Faith  ~Deut 6:4-9~
  • Memorials -- Learning from      History (Josh4:5-7).
  • The Discipline &      Instruction of the Lord (Eph6:4).

 Older Teach the Younger

  • Been there, done that. Young      folks, are you listening?
  • As 'aged' Paul instructed      young Timothy & Titus (1Tim1:18 / Tit1:4 / Philem9)
  • So, Older Men & Women to      pass it on  ~Titus 2:3,4~

 Tradition in Scripture

  • Jews take great pride in      retaining the traditions of their fathers (Mk7:3-5).
  • Allegiance to interpretation can      lead us to deny the intent of God's Word (vs6-13).
  • Yet, the teaching of the      apostles IS Holy Tradition (1Cor11:2)  ~2 Thess 2:13-15~ / 2 Thess 3:6~

Tradition does not mean that the living are dead, it means that the dead are living. -- Harold MacMillan

Tradition is the living faith of those now dead. Traditionalism is the dead faith of those still living. - Jaroslav Pelikan

Types of Tradition (FC Professor Doy Moyer):

  • Error -- Emphasis on human      interpretation or practice at the expense of direct revelation
  • Truth -- Principle and its      practice as revealed from God by anointed messengers
  • Choice --Application or      expediency used to apply a fixed principle -- leave optional.

 What We Can Do

  • Daily      Scripture for all Ages
  • Conduct and      Attend Classes
  • Listen and      Follow Instruction
  • Maintain the      Practice of Faith

"Remember the days of old; consider the years of many generations; ask your father, and he will show you, your elders, and they will tell you." (Dt32:7)

 Remember

  • "Remember the word that I said      to you..." (Jn15:20 / 16:4 / Ax20:35)
  • Repetition is not tiresome,      but safe to our faith in Jesus (Phil3:1)
  • Hold to the path of excellence      in grace and knowledge of Jesus ~2 Peter 1:12-15~  / ~2 Peter 3:1,2~

"Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?" (Luke 18:8)

 Preserving the Faith

  • This is NOT      about Class Pride or Cultural Diversity or Secular Distinction.
  • It's about      preserving Truth, Faith, and the Identity of God's people.
  • To do this we      must be separate and trained to be different (2Cor6:16-7:1)

Preserve the Faith! The Way of Life for God's People. Pass it On.
