Mark 11a Notes

Mark11a (vs1-11)                              Notes

1   Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to   Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives,

Long   day's journey of 17 miles from Jericho.   Eastern suburbs of the capital furnish access and housing.

Jesus   sent two of His disciples

emissaries   and errand boys sent in pairs

2   and said to them, "Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as   you enter

Fore-runners   pressed into service. Even with clear orders, must be willing & brave.

you   will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it.

Valuable   animal. And fit for sacred use (Num19.2). Lord sees plainly ahead (Jn1.48).

3   If anyone says to you, 'Why are you doing this?' say,

Right   for concerned parties to inquire. Be prepared to answer so...

'The   Lord had need of it and will sent it back here immediately.'"

Would   these men know their Master? Trust Him to make safe use and return the animal   right away.

4   And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and   they untied it.

Yes,   the Lord foresaw precisely -- as He as described to them.

5   And some of those standing there said to them, "What are you doing, untying   the colt?"

By-standers   defending their neighbors' property expected to require an explanation.

6   And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go.

And   the Lord's answer contents them - as He foretold. Long ago (Zech9.9)

7   And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and He sat   on it.

Resolved   and accomplished to enter the royal city with kingly dignity. Yet humble,   padded only by his disciples' clothing.

8   And many spread leafy branches that they has cut from the fields.

Paving   the road, as best they could, from natural materials from the country.

9   And those who went before and those that followed were shouting, "Hosanna!

The   Lord in procession, amidst an escort in front & behind. "Save Now, I   Pray!" from the Hallel (Psa118). Prayer turned triumphant.

Blessed   is He who comes in the name of the Lord!

Divine   bestowment on the coming reign of God's anointed.

10   Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!

And   the rightful heir to David's throne by established in His rule.

Hosanna   in the highest!

Deliverance   from on high -- God's throne.

11   And He entered Jerusalem   and went in to the temple.

Directly   to the place of worship, where Yahweh Himself should be honored. The colt   dismissed to its owners.

And   when He had looked around at everything,

Content   to view the facility, extending the reception extended to Him that evening.

as   it was already late, He went out to Bethany   with the twelve.

Time   limited to viewing for now. Then repose with friends in the suburb. More to   come on the morrow.
