FOREWORD: The God of the Bible

Christianity is one of the great world religions. It is based on the book called The Bible or the Holy Scriptures. The Bible is the foundation of Western Civilization. The Scriptures are the moral fiber of America as a nation. When the foundation of a nation or culture, is undermined, that nation or culture will collapse.

Christianity has been undermined by trying to destroy the accuracy of the Bible. If the Bible is historically or scientifically inaccurate, how can it be trusted concerning the nature and the revealed will of God? The Evolutionists have accomplished the mission of destroying the once universal faith in the Book of Books with the "theory of evolution." It was first popularized by Charles Darwin and made "scientific" by experts in the fields of biology and geology. When questioned about the age of a fossil, for example, the biologist will cite the geologist and the geologist will cite the biologist and each will consider the theory a scientific fact based on the other's field of knowledge. They tend to forget it is their "theory" of evolution but treat it as a "law" of nature. Neither will recognize the fact that the creation of the universe makes more sense, that, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1) then a big bang just happened somewhere and somehow in ages past, life sprang into existence.

Then there is the "enlightened" charge that the Bible is NOT history. As a consequence, disciples of Christ today are not expected to believe that the miracles or signs attributed to Jesus actually took place. All of this in spite of the avowed purpose of signs and miracles which was to prove the prophet's message was from God (Deuteronomy 18:15-22). As John Mark expressed it, "so then, after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went forth and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following" (Mark 16:19-20). Modernists also contend "good Christians" do not necessarily believe the virgin birth of Jesus and His resurrection the third day.

The Christian attitude toward other gods is well expressed by Paul, "we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there are none other God but one. For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there be gods many, and lords many), But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him" (1 Corinthians 8:4-6).

The attacks on the Bible as God's Word has withstood attacks by infidels and skeptics for 2,000 years. The attitude of the true believer is illustrated by two church members. The first one said, "Surely, you don't believe that old fish story about Jonah and the whale!" The second said, "Listen brother, if the Bible had said Jonah swallowed the whale, I would believe it!" As a bumper sticker stated, "The Bible says it-I believe it-That settles it." The bottom line is, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God... that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
