Man's Need For God's Revelation

It seems like it was Plato that declared, "We cannot know God except He reveal himself to us."  It was Paul addressing the philosophers at Athens (Acts 17), that pointed out that the ignorance of the God of Heaven and His will was once overlooked but that NOW He commands all men everywhere to repent (verse 30).  Furthermore, that this was because God had set up a Judgment Day (how quaint in the twenty first century) in which He would judge the world in righteousness (verse 31).  The assurance of the Judgment Day was in the resurrection of Christ (again verse 31).

The Greek world of the first century was longing for a messenger or Logos from God, much as the Jewish world was longing for the Messiah prophesied in the Old Testament.  The apostle John appeals to this longing in his Gospel.  "In the beginning was the Word (Greek logos) . . . (John 1:1-5).  Christ is the longed for Logos of the Greeks as well as the prophesied Messiah of the Jews.  Paul pointed this out in his first letter to the Corinthians.  "In the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.  For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:  But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness;  But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God" (1 Cor 1:21-24).

The wise of our world, unlike the ancient Greeks, feel no need for God much less any direction as to how God's creatures should live.  After all, to them, man is simply another animal on par with a cat or dog.  Human life is no more important than that of a dog, or a chicken for that matter.  First homosexualism was forced into the acceptable column, then same-sex marriage, along with polygamy.  Is sex with animals the next politically correct tradition?  Our social engineers have equated social drinking with the smoking of marijuana, social or otherwise. The consequence is that America, built and maintained by Biblical principles, will become a third world nation.

The Hebrew writer (Hebrews 1:1-2) pointed out God had spoken to the Jewish forefathers in the past by the prophets of the Old Testament but now, in the last days, has spoken to us by His son.  The Christian religion or faith is completely revealed in the New Testament or Gospel.  It alone reveals the righteousness of God (Romans 1:16-17) by which the just must live.  The ignorance of God and His laws were once overlooked (Acts17:30) but all must repent or burn because of the final Judgment Day.

When man turns his back on his Creator, the God of Heaven shall turn his back on man.  Ten righteous would have saved the homosexual city of Sodom (Genesis 18:32).  Let us hope and pray when God's day for America comes, we have 7,000 who have not bowed the knee to Baal (1 Kings 19:18)!
