(Psalm 33:8)

“Awesome – Something or some one feared, mingled with reverence.” The writer of Psalm knew how awesome God is. The text tells us ‘Let the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of HIM.’ God indeed is awesome! When we look at His power, He spoke and all the earth and its inhabitants were created. He displayed His power when He opened up the Red Sea so the Israelites could cross. He sent them food from the sky, water from rocks, led them to defeat powerful tribes, and wiped out an entire world with water, a city with fire. Yes, God is an awesome God! God has shown His power over evil forces/people. Satan trembled before Him. His power is limitless. He tells us He will not allow us to be tempted over that which we can overcome. The Psalmist David writes ‘He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. … Though I walk through the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me…. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:..’ Yes, David knew how awesome God is! God comforts us in time of need. God is with us in times of elation. God provides us with all our basic needs. All good and perfect gifts come from Him (James 1:17). Yes, God is an awesome God! He forgives us when we fall short. He gives of strength when we are weak. Isaiah 40:31 says: ‘But hey that wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not be faint.’ Yes, God is an awesome God! He is someone we all need to develop a closer relationship with. Let us all be in awe when we think of Him and all that He has done and will continue to do for those who surrender their all and all to Him.
