U. G. Wilkinson vs L. S. Welch (Infidel)
July 7, 1901
Comanche, Oklahoma Territory

(By A. S. Yates)

Held at Comanche, O. T., June 17-22, 1901.

They covered the whole range of Christina evidences, science, and infidel philosophy. Both were expert debaters and masters of their subject. Bro. Wilkinson aff: "The Bible is the inspired word of God and teaches a perfect code of morals. From the first he showed himself master of the situation. Mr. Welch showed himself a strong man in debate, but his inability to meet the opposition argument was evident to the infidels present. Bro. Wilkinson seemed to gather strength throughout the debate. Mr. Welch said that the universe in its present state is but a stage arrived at in endless changes wrought in eternally existing matter by natural forces.

Infidels and Christians saw the victory for the truth was evident. No more complete victory have I ever witnessed, and all the brethren and the world expressed themselves as being fully satisfied with the result. Welch felt his defeat. Both man were polite. Such debates asa this do much good. A strong man with a strong cause needs no other weapon but the truth. Any departure from truth shows weakness in both the cause and the men who makes the departure.
