Guy N. Woods vs Mack E. Abbott (Pentecostal)
November 3, 1949
Abilene, Texas

(By L. Arnold Watson)

Oct. 17-20

Subjects: The Godhead, baptism in the name of Jesus only, miracles, baptism of the Holy Spirit. This discussion was in the auditorium of the Northside church at Abilene, Tx. Attendance ran over 1000 each night, with Wed. night over 1300.

Bro. Woods was conducted himself as a Christian gentleman, and a splendid representative of Christ's cause. The churches of Abilene were happy to have had him representing us in such manner. Even Mr. Abbott's moderator commented: "He's a gentleman." Debates can be conducted in a Christian and gentlemanly manner.

Homer Hailey, Abilene, acted as moderator for bro. Woods. At the close of the last service he informed the audience in a kind way that th churches of Christ stand ready at all times for their teaching to be investigated, and that we willing to publicly defend what we believe the Bible teaches. Interest is still great for such discussions. One of the best safeguards for truth is for it to be tested and compared with error in such a manner. Debate, like meetings, can do good or harm, depending on the way they are conducted.
