B. L. Douthitt vs J. M. Hooker (Baptist)
April 12, 1923
Graves County, Kentucky

(By Coleman Overby)

Debate at Hard Money, in Graves County, Kentucky, March 6-9.

Mr. Hooker more than average Baptist debater both in demeanor and in his manner of presenting Baptist doctrine and labored hard to take care of his cause. However, he fought a running battle and had to surrender several positions. Bro. Douthitt with a few selected arguments from the "old Book" completely routed Brother "Jimmie" from his "Baptist Stronghold." His arguments were brief, clear and timely.

The debate was pitched on a high plane and remained thusly thru the debate. Such discussions will do good and will serve as a basis in removing the barrier existing between the Church of Christ and denominational world.

This was their second debate. As a result of the first debate, a man and wife obeyed the gospel stating they were converted at the debate. Yet some say, "There is no good to be accomplished in having debates." The victory here spoken of could not have been won any other way. Bro. Douthitt is to be commended for his excellent work during these discussions.
