B. L. Douthitt vs J. H. Linville
November 28, 1929
(NO DEBATE)

(By W. M. Oakley)

The Holiness people of Hilham, Tennessee challenged us for debate beginning September 24. J. H. Linville, Johnson City, Tennessee was selected by them to meet B. L. Douthitt.

W. M. Oakley (Moderator) and Douthitt were on the ground at time appointed. "But, lo and behold," in the meantime Linville's feet had got cold and he absolutely refused to debate unless Douthitt would sign a paper that forbade his answering any argument Linville might make. We refused to sign. Linville had arranged to preach his side of the proposition he had signed, alone, in the Union Church building. Finally they agreed to swap sermons and not to debate. Linville opened on Tuesday night and was pitiful. Douthitt followed in the negative on Wednesday night. On Thursday the Holy Spirit called Linville out of town. B. L. Douthitt preached alone until Saturday night and had great crowds. Seven were baptized who were older people.
