G. A. Dunn vs Melburn (Missionary Baptist)
January 20, 1910
Enon Church

(By D. A. Parrish)

At Enon Church, six miles west of Halls, Tennessee.

Melburn affirmed for two days, "salvation with like blessings is received before and without baptism." He contended that man was saved by faith along. Bro. Dunn agreed but faith must be expressed in a bodily act before God would bless or save on account of it.

Bro. Dunn affirmed on third and fourth days that "baptism in water to penitent believer is for (in order to) thee remission of past sins. He showed so clearly his argument that Milburn did not attempt to answer his main argument.

Milburn affirmed on fifth day: "the church set up during personal ministry of Christ" but never said when nor where. In negative, Bro. Dunn showed that blood had not been shed, the law of Christ was not in force, etc. All saw how Milburn had an impossible position.

Bro. Dunn affirmed on sixth and last day that "the scriptures teach that the Church or kingdom was established on the first Pentecost after the resurrection of Christ." Bro. Dunn presented the truth with such clearness and force that it was impossible to keep the people from seeing it. Some of the Baptists acknowledged that they were wrong and others said that they were whipped.

Elder Milburn seemed to feel his defeat from the first day. Bro. Dunn spent all his time presenting the truth and refused to deal in personalities or jokes, and shamed Elder Milburn when he would attempt it. Our brethren are
highly pleased with the discussion. I have never attended a discussion where the truth was presented more clearly and error more thoroughly exposed.
