B. H. Atkinson vs Arthur Stabile (Catholic)
August 10, 1950
Sunbury, Pennsylvania
(By G. R. Kirkpatrick)

B. H. Atkinson, Minister at Sunbury, Pennsylvania vs. Arthur Stabile, Director of "Catholic Campaigners for Christ, the King" of New York City, in a public debate in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. Stabile affirmed: "The Roman Catholic (sometimes called the Holy Apostolic Catholic) Church is the church of the New Testament." Bro. Atkinson asked Mr. Stabile to produce scriptural evidence of the Catholic church to prove Peter as the first Pope. Mr. Stabile, however, was unable to do this from the Bible.

The debate, which was the first Catholic one to be held in this area, created much interest, and it was said that a Catholic priest attended the three evenings, but dressed in civilian clothes. A continuation of this debate is to take place in New York City, August 22-24 and between the same two men. Stabile will be attacking the Church of Christ while Atkinson will be defending it. Plans, however, are dependent on Stabile finding a place for the debate.
