W. T. Beasley vs A. U. Nunnery
April 20, 1922
View Point, near Milan, Tennessee

(By W. T. Beasley)

My second debate with A. U. Nunnery at View Point, near Milan, Tennessee, March 21-14.

It is almost impossible to get them to discuss a specific proposition, so we used General church Proposition. Mr. Nunnery never introduced one new argument. In establishing the church, he set it up on the mts. Called "Horns of Hattin" (Mark 3; Luke 6). Later on in the same speech he laid the foundation for his church in Zion (Isaiah 28:16). After I had showed the impossibility of his church being built on the foundation as the foundation was 75 miles away from where he said the church was built, and after I had made an argument showing that the church was to be built in Jerusalem, introducing many scriptures to support the argument, he changed his position and said that sometimes "Jerusalem" means heaven and that Zechariah 1:16 and Isaiah 2:2-3 mean that the church was built in heaven. He never tried to set up their doctrine and practice. Mr. Nunnery claims that the term "church" always means a local assembly. I called his attention to a number of passages that teach one universal body, or church of which Christ is the head. In reply, Mr. Nunnery admitted that the church is one, so far as ownership is concerned.

Bro. J. L. Holland, Greenfield, Tennessee moderated for Beasley: Mr. Joiner moderated for Nunnery. I am sure the debate will do good. Our brethren were highly pleased with my effort, and Methodist and Primitive Baptist were pleased at the way I met him.
