Bynum Black vs E. H. C. Kenner (Missionary Baptist)
November 9, 1905
Pander, Missouri

(By P. W. O'Neal, Gatewood, Missouri)

Held at Pander, Missouri in Baptist building.

Elder Kenner affirmed his church was scriptural in origin, doctrine, and practice. Prior to the debate he had made a broad challenge to the world to open the flood gates and let the light shine in (referring to history). So Bro. Black told him the flood gates were open, and to come on with his light. Kenner tried to prove Baptist succession from the days of the apostles to the present; but Bro. Black took Baptist histories and Baptist scholars and showed that the Missionary Baptist Church had its origin on October 12, 1692 in the back room of Mr. Wallace's house in England.

In his three-day affirmation, Bro. Black presented 75 characteristics of the Church of Christ showing it was scriptural in all these points. Elder Kenner tried to answer five or six of these. Bro. Black turned every one off Kenner's proof texts against him.
