Brethren highly pleased with Boaz's defense. He manifested a fearless, Christian spirit throughout the debate. Boaz was too strong for Utley. Boaz affirmed: "The church was set up on the day of Pentecost." He led for two days. This he abundantly sustained from Old Testament prophets and apostles of New Testament. Utley did not reply to arguments, but would try to divert the minds of the people by misrepresenting Bro. Boaz in every speech. He would not meet the issue like a man. He came as close, I suppose, as his theory would allow him. Bro. Boaz's memory and familiarity with the scriptures stood out in great contrast with Utley's woeful forgetfulness and ignorance of the scriptures.
On the third and fourth days Utley affirmed: "A true believer is saved before water baptism." Bro. Boaz met him on every point and exposed his ignorance and perversions of the Book. This debate was certainly a complete victory for the truth.
