G. C. Brewer vs L. H. Baker (Missionary Baptist)
December 6, 1906
Liberty Hill, Alabama

(By James K. Hill)

This discussion was held at Liberty Hill, seven miles south of Oakman, Alabama beginning on November 5-8. L. H. Baker (Missionary Baptist) and G. C. Brewer (Church of Christ).

Four propositions: (1) Establishment of Church; (2) Order of Faith and Repentance; (3) Justification by Faith before Baptism; (4) Possibility of Apostasy. Baker is middle-aged and has preached a good number of years. He spoke altogether from manuscript and was slow to notice points advanced by his opponent. Bro. Brewer is only 21 and this was his first debate. He speaks rapidly, and presents his argument in a plain and forceful way. The brethren were delighted with the strong fight he made. The debate will result in good in the community. The speakers conducted themselves as becomes Christian gentlemen, and the best of feeling prevailed. Large crowds came each time.

T. E. Pinegar moderated for Baker, and the writer moderated for Bro. Brewer. Mr. Pinegar and Hill will debate February 5, 1907 at the same place. The setting up the church will be debated.
