G. C. Brewer vs Ben M. Bogard
January 28, 1932
Arkansas

(By A. O. Borden, Knobel, Arkansas)

Four days, January 12-15.

The debate highly interesting and profitable chapter in the history of the church in Arkansas. Mr. Bogard conducted himself in a gentlemanly manner. Bro. Brewer was his usual unperturbed self, very adeptly refuting all the erroneous Calvinistic doctrines presented by Mr. Bogard. Bro. Brewer handled the affair with such skill as to leave an indelible impression on the unbiased that the things which Bro. Brewer and we teach are so much more reasonable and contrasted so vividly against the cumbrous, unwieldy incongruities of Calvinism as set forth by Bogard. We made that statement because we count Mr. Bogard the most able landmark missionary preacher in their fold and their only bulwark of any consequence. What will they do when he has gone to his reward? The people in this part of Arkansas enjoy a Bogard-Brewer debate. They will go hundreds of miles to hear one. People who once condemned debates are now enthusiastic about them. The church has now become known. Fifteen years ago all of my people were Baptists and Methodists.
