Mr. Wells is one of the best debaters that I have ever seen among the Baptists, being a tactical debater as well as possessing a great power of speech. Good feeling seemed to prevail. Two hundred Baptists attended who rarely hear a gospel sermon. Mr. Wells made some concessions in this debate that few Baptist preachers will make, which proved to the hearers that he had some honesty and respect for the truth.
