Eugene W. Clevenger vs W. T. Russell (Missionary Baptist)
May 11, 1950
Hendersonville, Tennessee

(By J. B. Gaither)

Eugene W. Clevenger, minister at Hendersonville, Tennessee met W. T. Russell, a well-known Baptist preacher at Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Held in Church of Christ at Hendersonville, April 4-7. Two Thousand people each night. Never has a house been so completely filled, including all classrooms and basement. All rooms had loud-speakers.

Mr. Russell made the arguments common to Baptist preachers (who will debate) in this section. He did as well as any I have heard, but was not qualified for the opposition before him.

Three things are essential to a public debate: (1) Presenting scriptural arguments; (2) Make arguments stand out where audience can see them, and (3) Manifesting a Christian spirit. The above three Bro. Clevenger did a commendable way.
