C C. Fuqua vs. Mr. Williams (Missionary Baptist)
October 24, 1935
Haskell, Oklahoma

(By J. C. Hamilton, Haskell, Oklahoma)

Debate was near Haskell, Oklahoma. Good attendance and good order.

Williams is average debater and none better than Fuqua. Williams tried a new turn on Acts 2:38. He presented a diagram based on the punctuation of the sentence in the "Campbell-Rice Debate". In his diagram he separated 'repent' and 'be baptized,' claiming that two classes of people were addressed. He had 'for the remission of sins' modifying 'repent' and 'in the name of the Lord' modifying 'be baptized.' Bro. Fuqua showed that by his diagram they repented and were saved without the name of Christ; and if "for" meant "because of", as Baptists claim, they repented because of remission of sins.
