J. B. Griffith vs Mr. Martin (Missionary Baptist)
June 15, 1933
Nettlelon, Arkansas

(By A. H. Porterfield)

Bro. Griffith did his part well. Martin posed as a real debater. With all due respect, I consider him the weakest I ever heard. Martin spent most of time reading from J. H. Milburn trying to establish a "Campbellite" church. Bro. Griffith made the large audience see that if Martin were to establish 400 'Campbellite' churches, and were to prove that he is a member of all of them, such would not prove the Baptist Church is scriptural in origin, doctrine, name, and practice, which was his proposition. Martin called us "Campbellites, infidels, skunks, goat-pen bunch" and other things. Bro. Griffith held himself above such ugly unchristian terms. It took well with the audience. Some of the Baptist acknowledged their defeat. The church was highly pleased and called it a great victory for the truth. Bro. Griffith is a real debater.
